The simplicity of this cover and it's chiseled typeface brings to mind a plaque or perhaps a monument to the subjects within.  A short book, think of it as a 7" 45 rpm recording, two poems  one on each side. When I think of The Bronx, I think of its great expanse of parks and greenery, represented by the vast green gradient of this cover. The black square with the sans serif angular type brings us back to the urban borough that makes up the other half of its personality.
